Forges of Butron. The port and shipyards of Plencia
The activity of the ironworks of Butron river and commercial shipping port of Plencia have been two cultural cycles that developed intermingled for more than six centuries.
Less known than the history of the port of Plencia is the forges of Butron, major and minor, which worked from the thirteenth to the nineteenth century. The small one closed in 1812, during the crisis in the sector, and the bigger one continued until about 1860, when they started operating the blast furnace facility in Barakaldo.
